"There is a touch of Hogarth about Andrew Edmunds. It's the dark-wood décor, wooden seating and low ceilings - the clock could have stopped in 1798 here, I almost wanted to toast good King George on entry.

My dining partner who, as an ex-employee, has an up-close and personal knowledge of the place told me “The owner also owns the print shop next door”, and “the waiter over there was in the Pimms o’clock advert” yadda yadda. After turning down a glass of fizz only to have it forced on me, we launched into the poorly Photostatted menu. Presentation aside, it’s clearly a menu that changes daily and has strong English undertones. Beetroot and asparagus nestle alongside parmesan and other staples from the continent.

We had a shredded beef and salad ensemble to start. Now that was a perfect marriage of bovine meat, leavess and lemon. We unwisely opted to share before it came. Neither of us will ever make that mistake again and take my word neither will you if you if know what’s good for you - it was perfect. After that I thought maybe the meal had peaked too soon. My cohort had the squid and chorizo salad and I the tuna and rice which would better have been described as risotto, but that is not knocking it at all. Both mains were dispatched with military vigour.

My dining companion, who has a keener eye then me for spotting quirks and oddities, barked “Brown bread icecream!” What kind of crazy Frankenstein idea is that!! So we ordered it and it duly came. And yes you guessed it, amazing! The texture, the rum, the whole lot.

If you like bog standard faire in bright plastic surrounds this is not the place. If however you want service that is informed and polite with outstanding food, this little piece of Lexington Street is a good bet."

"This is without a doubt one of the best restaurants in london. Cosy, comfy and romantic, it has an ever-changing menu and a good wine list. Fantastic for a first date, or for rekindling an ebbing romance, you'll be an instant fan of this little restaurant in the heart of soho."

"The charming appearance of this restaurant led to great expectations soon quashed by brusque staff and poor, tasteless food.
Our waiter seemed gruff beyond measure and lacking in any natural inclination for his job. He persisted in marching heavily and agitatedly between tables annoying customers with pre-emptory requests of 'are you finished?', which he closely followed by whipping away the plates of still masticating eaters.
Many polite complaints were overheard but these seemed to fall on deaf ears or at least provoked little sympathy and nothing in the way of apology. The food bore no similarity to menu descriptions and was sorely disappointing - this place has a gift of a setting and could be so much more! We witheld the service charge and won't be going back."

"This is, without a doubt, one of Soho's best kept restaurant secrets. In fact, I so reluctantly write this for fear of this restaurant becoming Soho's worst kept secrets. But don't worry just yet. The restaurant operate a "one week in advance" booking system, so at the moment there is no problem getting a table. Andrew Edmunds strikes a perfect balance between casual dining, good wholesome food, great wine at excellent prices and friendly staff. Tucked away in Lexington Street you've probably walked past a million times but never entered. It's dark, dingy, candle-lit and romantic and a real slice of the old Soho."
