Tate Britain
Tate Britain is a part of the Tate gallery network in Britain, with Tate Modern, Tate Liverpool and Tate St Ives. It was the first established of these museums, opening in 1897. It houses a substantial collection of the work of J.M.W. Turner.Tate Britain is the national gallery of British art from 1500 to the present day. As such, it is the most comprehensive collection of its kind in the world (only the Yale Center for British Art can claim similar expansiveness, but with less depth). More recent artists include David Hockney, Peter Blake and Francis Bacon.

The older sister of 'Modern', Tate Britain showcases the finest art from around the world. Galleries and exhibitions change every season, so you'll have an excuse to visit regularly, as well as a few permanent features.
I find this a relaxing and educational day out which is perfect for culture vultures as well as casuals.
